About the Edition

Since 1983 PD/A CRSP researchers have conducted comprehensive, long-term research to study the physical, chemical, and biological processes of pond ecosystems in Central and South America, Africa, and Southeast Asia. The results of these studies have been compiled into the PD/A CRSP Central Database, containing over one million observations of pond variables obtained from over one hundred production studies. The studies pertain to the tropical and sub-tropical production of tilapia, peneaid shrimp, and other warmwater culture species in solar algae ponds that receive inputs such as plant materials, inorganic and organic fertilizers, and prepared feeds. Datasets may be searched and retrieved based on geographical location, fish culture methods and species, and desired types of data such as weather, water quality, pond soil, management schedules for water, fertilizers, and fish feeds, and fish production. Datasets may be viewed in tabular and graphical formats or downloaded for use in spreadsheets or other databases. Also available are descriptions of PD/A CRSP research sites, analytical methods, and contacts with PD/A CRSP researchers.

The PD/A CRSP Aquaculture Database is a centralized data and information resource for pond-based aquaculture research conducted under the Pond Dynamics/Aquaculture Collaborative Research Support Program ().The Database contains descriptions, materials and methods, empirical datasets, publications, and other information for nearly CRSP projects (experiments, studies, and activities).

Downloadable PDF files provide profiles of PD/A CRSP research sites and their regions, as well as maps, schematics, PD/A CRSP aquaculture database book, and site-specific contact information. The PD/A CRSP has placed emphasis on measuring the effects of pond water quality variables on fish production and developing management procedures for improving water quality.

he PD/A CRSP Central Database is a centralized data storage and retrieval system for PD/A CRSP research and for other aquaculture research programs with compatible objectives and standardized methodology.

The Database contains more than one million observations of pond variables. She co-authored with Claude Boyd the popular book, Dynamics of Pond Aquaculture (CRC Press, ), was executive producer of a DVD documentary on global pond aquaculture practices, Ponds for Life (), and participated in the production of podcasts and video stories as part of the CRSP team.

In conjunction with the Pond Dynamics/Aquaculture Collaborative Research Support Program (PD/A CRSP), the authors have developed a water quality model (the Aquaculture Pond Ecosystem Model, A.P.E.M.) which predicts temperature and dissolved oxygen stratification at several sites, including Thailand, Rwanda, and Honduras.
